Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain: Dispose of bulky waste free of charge!

In a recent press release, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office announced the upcoming BSR Kieztage, which will take place in collaboration with the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR). This initiative offers private households in the region the opportunity to hand in bulky waste and other recyclables free of charge. The Kieztage are intended to serve both the disposal and recycling of waste and thus pursue the goal of reducing waste and making better use of resources. In addition to handing over bulky waste, participants can also offer usable items to exchange or give away. This promotes the idea of a circular economy and the appreciation of old treasures.

The Kieztage will take place over the entire fourth quarter of 2025. The following dates are planned in Kreuzberg:

  • Dienstag, 14. Oktober, 13 bis 18 Uhr, Lausitzer Platz
  • Freitag, 31. Oktober, 8 bis 13 Uhr, Mehringplatz

Friedrichshain will also offer several waste generation opportunities:

  • Donnerstag, 2. Oktober, 13 bis 18 Uhr, Boxhagener Platz
  • Samstag, 1. November, 8 bis 13 Uhr, Hildegard-Jadamowitz Straße ggü. 102
  • Mittwoch, 12. November, 13 bis 18 Uhr, Löwenweg 1a-5 / Ecke Auerstraße
  • Dienstag, 9. Dezember, 13 bis 18 Uhr, Samariterplatz Ecke Bänschstraße

All items not handed in or given away will be forwarded to the BSR “NochMall” in Reinickendorf. This is an important step to ensure that things in good condition do not end up in the trash, but are returned to the reuse cycle.

Comprehensive waste collection

As the t-online.de reports, Berliners can hand in their bulky waste at various locations and provide usable items to exchange or give away. The opening hours of the Kieztage vary, often from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Accepted materials include bulky waste, scrap wood, mattresses, electrical appliances and old textiles. However, varnishes, paints, solvents and contaminated wood are not accepted.

The basis of this environmentally friendly initiative is closely linked to the city's efforts to promote the circular economy. The Senate Department for the Environment, Transport and Climate Protection is planning to found a zero-waste agency to sustainably optimize waste management in Berlin. This agency is intended to contribute to achieving the goal of a resource-saving circular economy and to strengthen waste avoidance, reuse and recycling measures. Already in 2020, each person in Berlin produced an average of 220 kg of residual waste, which underlines the urgency of initiatives to reduce and recycle waste.

Overall, the BSR Kieztage are a step in the right direction to avoid waste and to actively involve citizens in the idea of a circular economy. Those interested can find further information about the Kieztage and registration procedures on the BSR website.
