In a dramatic incident, a fire in an apartment building in Schöneberg early this morning called the fire department into action. At around 3:30 a.m., an alert resident discovered smoke in the roof of the house on Motzstrasse. The roof structure burned out completely, while neighboring apartments and the hallway were significantly damaged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Berlin fire brigade was able to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings. The residents had to be evacuated and the front building is currently uninhabitable. During the extinguishing work, Motzstrasse between Nollendorfplatz and Kalckreuthstrasse as well as several intersections were closed from 4:10 a.m. to 10:10 a.m., which also affected local public transport. The fire commissioner of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
