Cultural summer festival in Lichtenrade: Celebrate 650 years of music!
The 6th Cultural Summer Festival will take place on September 20, 2025 in the Alte Mälzerei in Lichtenrade. This year the district's 650th anniversary will also be celebrated. The District Office for Further Education and Culture in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, represented by District Councilor Tobias Dollase, cordially invites citizens to take part in this diverse festival. “We are pleased to present the cultural diversity of Lichtenrade,” said Dollase.
The Alte Mälzerei, a historic building and landmark of the southern district of Berlin, is currently undergoing extensive revitalization. This project is led by Thomas Bestgen and Jutta Grünewald and is part of a larger redevelopment initiative that is creating a new urban center directly at Lichtenrade S-Bahn station. In this context, citizen participation offers should also be integrated into the development in order to actively involve the community.
Diverse program
A varied program awaits visitors from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
There are numerous activities available for children, including face painting, balloon modeling, and craft and baking programs. There is also a knitting workshop and the opportunity to try out Pilates. Admission to this event is free.
New urban center
The newly designed Old Mälzerei will not only accommodate cultural events in the future, but will also serve as an educational location. Over 3,000 square meters of the building are used for a district library, adult education center and a youth museum. In addition, around 200 mixed-ownership apartments are planned to create social housing.
The Old Mälzerei was built 120 years ago and was originally part of the Schöneberg Castle Brewery. After a long period of inactivity, the building is now being used for a useful purpose again. A point of attraction will be created for the citizens of Lichtenrade and the surrounding area, supported by funding from the Active Centers urban development funding program.
The district mayor Jörn Oltmann and other prominent representatives of the city will celebrate the festival with an opening speech and invite people to the community celebration. The cultural summer festival promises to be a highlight in Lichtenrade's event calendar and invites all citizens to discover the cultural facets of their district with joy and curiosity.
