Fair neighborhood run in Tempelhof: Together for fair trading conditions!

Today, September 15th, 2025, the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district marks the beginning of the Fair Week 2025. The kick-off event, the Faire Kiezlauf, took place on September 12th, 2025 and had the goal of making fair trade tangible in the district. Particular attention was paid to the fair pay of the producers and the fair production conditions. The Faire Kiezlauf combines social responsibility with ecological and economic action, which represents an important step for the region.

Participants in the neighborhood run had the opportunity to visit local shops and restaurants that are committed to fair supply chains. Some of the places visited included:

  • Winterfeldt Schokoladen
  • Bon Vivant
  • Café Fragezeichen
  • UVR
  • Smiling Kangaroohs

The owners of these companies reported on their concepts and the implementation of Fairtrade, which offered visitors deeper insights into the practice of fair trade. District Mayor Jörn Oltmann emphasized the great local importance of fair trade and the need to further support these initiatives on the occasion of the Kiez run.

Insights into fair trade

The event was organized by the Schöneberg district council in cooperation with the Tempelhof-Schöneberg business development agency and the Fair Handel Action Alliance. Through personal conversations and direct encounters, the participants received valuable insights into the work of the companies. In order to round off the neighborhood run, two fair gift baskets were raffled off, which were filled with products from the shops visited.

Fair trade is based on dialogue, transparency and respect and aims to achieve greater justice in international trade. This improves trading conditions and secures social rights for disadvantaged producers and workers, especially in countries in the Global South. Fair trade organizations are actively committed to supporting producers and raising awareness to change the rules of conventional world trade. The definition of fair trade was set out in 2001 in the basic paper of the informal working group FINE, an association of various international fair trade umbrella organizations.

Consumers play a crucial role in global goods. By conscious purchase decisions, you can influence the living and working conditions in developing countries. Fair trade promotes the local organization of the producers and contributes to the sustainable economy to improve their living and working conditions.
