Südparkfest: Thousands celebrate sport and fun in Spandau!

The Südparkfest, which took place last Sunday at the Südpark leisure sports facility, attracted several thousand visitors. The event was organized by the Spandau School and Sports Office in close cooperation with the Berlin State Sports Association and the Spandau District Sports Association. This varied festival was part of the umbrella event “Family Sports Festival in the Neighborhood” and offered a variety of activities for the whole family.

Visitors were able to obtain information at the information stands of the sports clubs and youth leisure facilities and take part in workshops. The offers ranged from acrobatics to football, Tango Argentino to chess and fishing - all free of charge. The official opening took place at 12 p.m. Personalities such as district councilor Dr. Carola Brückner, district mayor Frank Bewig, Thorsten Hanf (president of the Spandau district sports association) and Eberhard Heck (state sports association) gave speeches to welcome the visitors.

Diverse entertainment spectrum

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of a stone of glory in honor of competitive swimmer Paula Pichier, who was named “Sportswoman of the Year 2024”. The “Beat the District Mayor” format also took place again: young basketball fans were able to challenge Frank Bewig. Berlin's governing mayor Kai Wegner was also infected by the event and attended the festival.

Numerous attractions were offered to entertain the little guests. A ninja bouncy course, a bubble ball arena and a trampoline system provided excitement. There was also the opportunity for face painting. Dr. Carola Brückner, the district councilor, was enthusiastic about the diversity and liveliness of the Spandau sports landscape and emphasized the importance of such events for the community.

Collaboration and commitment

The family sports festival was supported not only by local actors, but also by media representatives such as the Berliner Morgenpost, who acted as media partners. They reported extensively on sport in Berlin and organized their own stand. Children and adults had the opportunity to take a free souvenir photo or take part in a sports memo game with prizes. Individual sports buttons could also be made, celebrating the joy of exercise and the diversity of sports.
