New call for funding for Galerie Nord: Art in Moabit is blooming!
On October 22, 2025, the Art, Culture and History Department of the Mitte District Office will start an expression of interest process for the Galerie Nord in Berlin-Moabit. According to berlin.de, citizens have the opportunity to find out about the future direction of the gallery and submit applications. The goal is to further develop the gallery and offer a diverse, inclusive art program. District mayor Stefanie Remlinger emphasizes the importance of integrating both the local and international art scene.
Galerie Nord, which has been providing exhibition space to young artists for over 30 years, has already established an extensive program. The Tiergarten Art Association, which was founded in 2004, played a key role in the design of the artistic space in the gallery. Its exhibition and event program includes thematic exhibitions, interdisciplinary projects and activities in public spaces. Not only are the urban challenges reflected here, but cultural impulses are also set, as kgberlin.net highlights.
Creation of a communal project space
A central point of the expression of interest process is the creation of a municipal project space that is intended to promote the presentation of current artistic developments in the Moabit district. The Galerie Nord, which offers over 207 m² of exhibition space, will serve as an important contact point for Berlin visual artists and collectives. This is done within the framework of project funding of €60,500 gross for 2026, which is, however, subject to the release of budget funds.
Applications are possible until July 21, 2025, with a viewing of the gallery rooms taking place on June 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Applications are reviewed by an interdisciplinary, independent jury of experts consisting of at least five people with expertise in art and exhibitions. The jury will also decide on the further development of the program.
Funding and projects in the visual arts
In parallel to these activities, there are various funding opportunities for artists in Berlin, as described on the website of the Senate Department for Culture and Europe. The program supports presentation projects that take place between February and December of the respective year and offers grants ranging from €25,000 for individual catalog projects to €55,000 for group projects. These financial resources are intended to support the realization of innovative and critical artistic positions and at the same time make a contribution to cultural diversity in Berlin.
Overall, it shows that Galerie Nord is not only a place for contemporary art, but also an important player within the Berlin cultural scene. The planned offers and funding demonstrate the commitment to strengthening the local art scene and making creative expressions accessible to a broader public.
