Hasenheide gets new opportunities: conversion for climate protection started!
In the Volkspark Hasenheide in Neukölln there is the conversion of the popular local recreation area shortly before the end. The aim of the “Climate Silient Hasenheide” project is to make the park more resistance and adaptable to the effects of climate change, such as reported. The fourth and last construction phase has recently started and should be completed by the end of 2025. These measures are part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen the ecological resistance of the park.
An information event took place on October 2, 2025. From 4 p.m., residents and interested parties on the rabbit tens were invited to find out about the course of the project. District City Councilor Jochen Biedermann and the planning office Planstatt Senner were available for talks. A poster exhibition showed the previous course of the project and the measures already implemented.
Implementation and measures
Numerous measures are planned for the new construction phase. This includes planting new trees, the improvement of the soil quality and the creation of new recreation offers in order to increase the quality of stay in the park. Especially in the western part of the park, a focus is on new plantings and better water regulation. The valley meadow is upgraded by loosening the ground, additional sowing and planting of other trees, shrubs and perennials, such as Development City.de reported.
Another goal is to improve the drainage of a strongly eroded path as well as the installation of new seating and table tennis panels. In addition, so -called Benjeshecke are created as natural barriers to protect the vegetation and prevent unwanted tramps. Temporary closures of affected areas are accepted during the construction work and the fart's phase.
Financing and challenges
The financing of the fourth construction phase amounts to 1.4 million euros, which are provided by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Security as well as the household of the Neukölln district. The entire “Climate silent Hasenheide” project has a funding volume of 5.5 million euros and is largely financed from the federal program “Adjustment of urban and rural areas to climate change”.
The challenge is to reconcile nature conservation with the high visitor frequency in the park. This also emphasizes the need to adapt to climate change in urban areas, as another investigation states Fraunhofer isi. Climate adaptation measures often have to be behind other municipal challenges, which underlines the importance of such projects all the more.
The final event of the project is planned for spring 2026; The exact time will be announced.
