The Kieztag is part of a broader strategy of the city that deals with waste prevention and sustainable re-use. This overall strategy, which was launched by Senator Franziska Giffey, was decided in April 2024. Berlin.de highlights that over 30 million euros will be made available for the implementation of these measures in 2024 to promote waste disposal, recycling and urban cleanliness. Part of this strategy are the more than 170 neighborhood days that have been held since April 2023, during which more than 1,000 tons of bulky waste were collected and 127 tons of used goods were sold.
Another innovative approach by BSR to reduce waste is NochMall, a used goods department store that helped eliminate 538 tons of waste last year. This focus on sustainable practices and reuse shows how important the social and environmental perspective is in urban waste disposal.
