Eisbären Berlin: Fans celebrate a strong start to training to defend their title!
The Eisbären Berlin officially began their preparations for the coming season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on August 12, 2025. The team, which won its eleventh championship title three and a half months ago, held its first public team training session in the Wellblechpalast on Monday evening. Around 1,500 fans were enthusiastic supporters and celebrated the team during the 50-minute practice session.
trainer Serge Aubin welcomed almost the entire squad onto the ice, while the newly signed attackers Andreas Eder and Markus Vikingstad took their first steps as polar bears. Unfortunately there is defender Markus Niemeläinen still in the rehabilitation phase and will not be ready for the start of the season.
Successful last season
The last championship title, which the Eisbären Berlin achieved on April 27, 2024 with a 2-0 win in the fifth game against Bremerhaven, marked the tenth title in the club's history. Managing Director Thomas Bothstede highlighted the team's passion and morale during the playoffs, in which they emerged from a bitter loss to Adler Mannheim and won the following four games.
The Eisbären's defensive performance was particularly remarkable, as they only conceded more than two goals in two of their 14 games after the defeat. Goaltender Jake Hildebrand was cited as key to the championship, particularly for his strong performance in the crucial series. captain Kai Wissmann described the special team spirit and the high motivation within the team. striker Leo Pföderl was particularly successful with eleven scorer points in the final series and was named the most valuable player in the final series.
Outlook for the coming season
The polar bears’ focus is now on the challenges ahead. The first test match is on August 22nd against HC Bílí Tygri Liberec as part of a preparatory tournament in České Budějovice. The first competitive game will take place on August 28th against Storhamar Hockey in the Champions Hockey League (CHL). Coach Aubin is optimistic: “We are fitter than a year ago,” he explains the preparation for the new season.
In the DEL, the Eisbären Berlin are one of the most successful teams in history. The club's consistency and commitment, combined with the support of the fans, should continue to shape the coming months. The polar bears have the potential to continue their success story.
