Opening of the exhibition Shards of Reality” in Berlin: Art meets crisis!
The group exhibition “Shards of Reality. Berlin – Tricity” will open in the Kommunale Galerie Berlin on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 6 p.m. This comprehensive show addresses the fragile attitude to life today and runs until November 9, 2025. Admission is free. The exhibition is a connection between Berlin and the Tricity, consisting of Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, on the Polish Baltic Sea coast, and is presented in collaboration with the Sopot State Art Gallery, where it was already on view from June 7th to August 24th, 2025.
The title of the exhibition refers to the novel “Paw królowej” (The Heron Queen) by Dorota Masłowska and reflects the turmoil and social tensions of modern society. The central themes include violence against women, patriarchal traditions and the collapse of political and religious power relations. This is vividly conveyed through the works of contemporary artists, including Sophia Pompéry, Sandra del Pilar and Mehtap Baydu, and confronts visitors directly with current social and political conflicts.
Artistic engagement with social issues
The exhibition “Shards of Reality” presents works by artists from Berlin and the Tricity that show fragments of a shattered reality. She calls on the viewer to deal with the aggressive reality in Poland and Germany and shows solidarity with those affected. The exhibition is curated by Marta Smolinska and Norbert Wiesneth, who offer a supporting program that includes, among other things, guided tours on September 13, 2025 and October 15, 2025 and celebrates the finissage on November 9, 2025.
