Yesterday afternoon, a 21-year-old woman was arrested at Wittenbergplatz by officers from the State Criminal Police Office. She is suspected of cheating on an 84-year-old man. The perpetrator had presented him with a dramatic financial and emotional predicament in order to get cash out of him. Allegedly she needed money to pay rent debts and issued a promissory note under a false name.
When she demanded more money, the senior became suspicious and alerted the police. During a planned handover on Kurfürstenstrasse, the handcuffs finally clicked - the fraudster still had a large part of the stolen money with her. Today she will be brought before an investigating judge who will decide whether to issue an arrest warrant. The investigation is carried out by a specialist fraud commission.
