Berlin Innovation Campus NLND: Center for the future of industry!

On October 9, 2025, Berlin-Neukölln will be the scene of a significant development in the industrial landscape. The NLND Campus, a project initiated by Philip Morris GmbH and Green City Development GmbH, has attracted a lot of attention since its opening on September 18, 2025. An innovation center is to be created on the former site of Philip Morris GmbH that combines industrial tradition with state-of-the-art technology.

With a total area of 150,000 square meters, this campus is designed to be Europe's largest innovation campus for Industry 4.0 technologies. The focus is on key technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, sensors and automation. Veronika F. Rost, Managing Director of Philip Morris Germany, describes the campus as a catalyst for industrial transformation and highlights the need to bring international startups and research institutions together to develop innovative solutions.

Innovation environment and collaborations

The NLND Campus offers a variety of spaces for research, manufacturing and exchange, especially for hardware startups and industrial innovators. The infrastructure includes laboratories, prototyping halls and flexible production areas. A membership model is also offered for technology-oriented founders, which provides access to office space, networks and programs. This open, collaborative industry is envisioned as part of urban life and emphasizes the importance of engaging policymakers, universities and businesses.

A particularly noteworthy feature is the planned partnerships with renowned organizations. The Plug and Play Tech Center, which has supported companies such as Google and PayPal, as well as UNITE Berlin, a science startup factory, will also operate on campus. Together they will help shape the innovation environment and promote exchange between science and industry. The vision is to create a networked and dialogue-oriented campus that also includes cultural offerings and sports areas.

Future prospects and scheduled completion

Full completion of the NLND Campus is planned in several phases by the end of 2027. Kai Wegner, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, emphasizes the importance of the project for the city's innovation and economic prospects. Berlin continues to be highlighted as a global hotspot for technology and creativity, and the NLND Campus takes another step in this direction.

The initiators behind this project, Philip Morris International (PMI), are also committed to a smoke-free future. The company plans to expand its portfolio to include non-tobacco products. As of June 30, 2025, smoke-free products were already offered in 97 markets and used by over 41 million consumers. This development not only shows the change in the portfolio of Philip Morris GmbH, but also the clear focus on innovation and sustainability in the context of industrial transformation.

On the NLND Campus, future technology will meet industrial tradition and provide an example of change in industry. The next few years look set to be exciting as this visionary campus grows and develops.
