Wild discoveries in the new daycare garden: children explore nature!
The Wildenbruchstrasse daycare center in the Harzer Strasse neighborhood management area is reopening today. The state of Berlin's own operation, under the sponsorship of Daycare centers Southeast, offers space for 160 children and acts as an important meeting place for families with different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The redesign of the daycare center aims to supplement the child-friendly equipment and create inviting retreat spaces and more opportunities for exercise.
The reopening will take place in the presence of Sarah Nagel, the district councilor for youth, and Jochen Biedermann, the district councilor for urban development, environment and transport. The measures for the comprehensive redesign of the facility were financed with a budget of 240,000 euros from the “Social Cohesion” urban development funding program of the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing.
A garden full of discoveries
The daycare garden plays a central role in the education and support of the children. Here the little ones can actively research and discover. The game is highlighted by a small experience: a beetle named “Bunny” was observed tipping over on its side. The children speculate about whether it is a May beetle or a non-existent rain beetle, looking closely at the beetle's wings.
Other exciting finds in the garden go beyond the beetle; A small snail is discovered, whose path in the garden is then carefully examined. The children discover that the caterpillar eats leaves and they also find a family of worms that consists of a mother and several babies. Every discovery in the garden brings a lot of wonder and joy, and the children develop creative ideas, such as the name of the snail, which is referred to as “an empty snail”.
The importance of experiencing nature for children
At a time when children are spending more time indoors, the importance of experiencing nature is coming into focus. Experts emphasize that experiences in nature are crucial for children's healthy development. Children need space for movement, creativity and social interaction. By exploring the natural environment, they develop a basic trust and love for nature, which is important for ecological education.
The Wildenbruchstrasse daycare center sets an important tone with its redesign and focus on nature and environmental education: The garden not only serves as a place to learn, but also as a daily research adventure that encourages children to actively discover and understand the world around them. This not only promotes play, but also supports the children's holistic development in a special way.
