Complete closure of the B2: car traffic between Beelitz and Michendorf paralyzed!

Federal Highway 2 between Beelitz and Michendorf will be completely closed for 15 days from October 13th. The renovation work on Lake Seddin, a section that requires attention due to instability, will end on November 7th. The full closure is particularly effective from October 18th (8 a.m.) to November 1st (6 p.m.) in order to minimize traffic congestion during the autumn holidays. These measures are necessary because parts of the road and cycle path have collapsed here and the embankment needs to be stabilized, as rbb24 reports.

A diversion will be set up for drivers, which leads via Beelitz-Heilstätten, the A9 and the A10 to Michendorf. This means the journey time could increase from the original 5 minutes to around 20 minutes. An alternative diversion through Stücken and Fresdorf is also possible. The buses between Beelitz and Potsdam are also affected by the closure. Information about restrictions by Regiobus GmbH is currently pending.

Further construction work and preparations

Similar construction work was carried out in the region last year. As landesbetrieb-strassenwesen.de notes, the cycle paths along the B2 also need to be redesigned. The plan is to install a sheet pile wall to secure the embankment, whereby specialized equipment is essential for bringing the sheet pile walls into the ground. These jobs require large mobile crane footprints to properly place the machines.

Important safety checks and a comprehensive infrastructure will be crucial for the success of the construction projects. The Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) sees road safety as a central task. As part of Vision Zero and the traffic safety program from 2021 to 2030, measures to improve traffic safety are to be implemented, which entails the need for stability tests of roads and cycle paths, as bmv.de explains.

Cooperation and responsibility

The security of the infrastructure requires close cooperation between various actors. Safety aspects must be taken into account in all phases of a road project, from planning to operation. Technical regulations introduced by the federal government help to ensure the uniform and safe design of federal highways. Regular inspection of the road infrastructure plays an important role in identifying and eliminating potential risks.

The upcoming renovation work on Bundesstraße 2 is therefore part of a broader program to improve the transport infrastructure in Germany, which is intended to bring long-term benefits for road users as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
