Renovation of the Kladower Damm: traffic is restricted, renovations are underway!

Extensive renovation work is currently underway at Kladower Damm in Spandau, which is being carried out as part of the modernization of defective storm drains. As the Spandau district office reports, the installation of the new processes has already been completed, but the demolition work required repositioning due to numerous underground cable packages in the planned area. This meant that the affected area in the roadway could be reduced in size, which is why a full closure is no longer necessary.

District councilor Thorsten Schatz informed the public about the progress of the work. Residents can hope for a half-way closure with traffic lights that will continue to allow traffic. The measure is expected to be completed on October 2, 2025.

Details about the construction project

Overall, the renovation work on Kladower Damm will be carried out in two phases. The first is already active between September 10th and 26th, 2025 and provides for a partial closure of traffic with traffic light control. Pedestrians will also be routed through a temporary crossing, while some bus stops will need to be slightly relocated. The daily use of Kladower Damm by around 14,000 vehicles is of great importance, as this route is essential for traffic in the south of Spandau.

The second construction phase begins on September 26th and ends on October 2nd, 2025. During this time there will be a complete closure between house numbers 44 and 86. Motorized road users will then have to take a diversion via Potsdamer Chaussee and Wilhelmstrasse. For commuters, this can result in detours of up to 13 kilometers. Access to house number 55, which houses an allotment garden colony and an education center, is also not possible during this time.

Long-term perspectives

The renovation work is part of a comprehensive renewal plan for Kladower Damm, which includes investments of over 70 million euros to sustainably improve the transport infrastructure by 2032. These measures are necessary to replace the defective storm drains and to ensure traffic safety. The previous processes had proven to be severely damaged and had to be relocated to the curb area to counteract future overload.

The district office has informed residents about the planned work in order to minimize possible inconveniences and to involve residents in the planning at an early stage. The public discussion about the importance of these measures shows the district office's commitment to continuing to modernize the infrastructure in Spandau and adapt it to traffic requirements.
