Renovation of the library at Luisenbad: Celebration of the 30th anniversary!
On October 9, 2025, the venerable library at the Luisenbad in Berlin Wedding will undergo a partial renovation of the floor. This is happening on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the library, which is a listed building. District mayor Stefanie Remlinger announced the renovation measures and emphasized the important role of the library in the neighborhood, which will be implemented in collaboration with the Kiezverein e.V. as part of the Badstrasse district management's educational project.
The partial closure of the library will last from September 22nd to October 31st, 2025. During this time, the library foyer remains open, where selected media such as daily newspapers and bestsellers are still available. There will also be a book bus in front of the library that will provide picture books and Tonie characters for younger readers.
Events during closure
In order to offer visitors cultural offerings despite the restrictions, a diverse program of events is being provided. Highlights include:
- 01.10.2025: Konzert des Liedermachers Stephan Krawczyk
- 16.10.2025: Lesung mit Mandy Mangler zum Brustkrebs-Awareness-Monat
- 23.10.2025: Stummfilmabend „Der dritte Mann“ mit Live-Klavierbegleitung durch Richard Siedhoff
For younger visitors, the library also offers activities such as homework help, picture book cinema and the “Mal’ Mal Wednesday (two)” series with Kristina Heldmann. In addition, the project “LEGO® Build the Change” and “The Animal Adventure” with the reading dog Eddie are offered. All events can be attended free of charge.
Reopening celebration
The library will officially reopen on November 1, 2025, on the 30th anniversary of its opening. On this day, visitors can expect a live comic concert by pianist Itay Dvori, which will kick off the celebrations.
The library at Luisenbad is not only a place for reading, but also a space for meetings and exchange, where a wide range of topics such as health and dementia are discussed. Free events such as concerts in the “Music Salon Luise” series, film evenings under the title “Süß & Salzig”, readings and workshops take place regularly. On the last Thursday of every month, the “#BerTa Café” invites visitors to exchange ideas and network. Senior Network highlights the important role of the library as a place for social interaction.
The importance of the library at Luisenbad is also taken into account as part of a city-wide library development, which the Berlin House of Representatives decided on September 13, 2018. The aim is to take the changing technological and social conditions into account and to develop proposals for the development of Berlin's public libraries. Loud Berlin Cultural Administration Libraries are the most visited cultural and educational institutions in Berlin and are at the center of creative experiences and cultural exchange.
