Rocky Winterfeld: Adventures in a VW bus – book launch for families!

On October 20, 2025, district mayor Clara Herrmann announced an exciting event for young readers. She provided information about the book launch of the “Rocky Winterfeld” series, the author of which is Marie Hüttner. This reading is aimed at families with children aged eight to twelve and will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the garden behind the Pablo Neruda District Central Library, located at Frankfurter Allee 14A in Berlin. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the event will be moved to the library.

Admission to the reading is free, but registration is requested. “Rocky Winterfeld” tells the story of a boy who has a very clear idea of his life: daily kebab with special sauce and no vacation trips. But a mysterious letter changes everything for him. Rocky gets involved in a science competition and plans to secretly travel to Gdansk with three classmates in a rickety VW bus, which happens against his mother's wishes. This adventurous idea once again shows the infectious curiosity and spirit of discovery that children often possess.

About the author and her work

Marie Hüttner, born in 1989, studied psychology and was a scholarship holder at the Academy for Children's Media. She lives in Berlin and has a broad range of experience, both as an author and as a therapist for children with reading and spelling difficulties. In 2023 she was nominated for the Berlin Children's Theater Prize. Her commitment aims to inspire children with literature and to convey to them the joy of reading.

Through working with children, she is also aware of the challenges that reading can bring. It is all the more important to offer children books with excitement and humor that encourage them to read. This is also where young adult literature and the succinct values of picture books come into play. These promote discovery, filtering out what is important and linking words with images, which is why their diversity supports the development of language and reading comprehension.

Educational relevance and engagement in reading

The importance of readings and book presentations is increasingly emphasized in educational curricula, for example in Baden-Württemberg, where picture books and fiction are recognized as essential components of reading acquisition in kindergartens and primary schools. This shows that children's offering systems like “Antolin” help to increase reading motivation by allowing children to collect points for books they read.

These efforts are essential to promote reading skills and comprehension in children. Especially in today's world, when digital media are omnipresent, it remains a major challenge to get children excited about the printed word and to teach them the joy of reading.

For interested families, Marie Hüttner's book launch will be a wonderful opportunity to promote their love of literature and immerse themselves in the adventures of "Rocky Winterfeld" together.
