Naturalization celebration in Mitte: Celebrate diversity together!

On September 19, 2025, the Mitte district will announce a special naturalization ceremony that will warmly welcome new citizens. Under the motto "I belong to Mitte! Do you too?" The celebration will take place on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, in the ballroom of the Berlin City Mission. The district mayor Stefanie Remlinger emphasizes the importance of this event, which represents more than just a formal presentation of certificates.

Entry to the celebration opens at 5:15 p.m., while the event begins at 6:00 p.m. Around 40 new citizens from Mitte will receive their citizenship, and the celebration itself will be designed as a celebration of diversity. In addition to official naturalization, participants have the opportunity to contribute their personal stories and get in touch with each other. This celebration also represents an opportunity to promote the visibility and appreciation of the new citizens, as [Brunnenmagazin](https://brunnenmagazin.de/einbuergerungs Feier-mitte/) reports.

Details about the naturalization ceremony

The event is organized by the Office for Participation and Integration of the Mitte District Office. Everyone who has lived in Mitte since January 1, 2024 and who has acquired German citizenship is invited. In addition to the new citizens, volunteers and representatives from politics, administration and civil society are also welcome. Each newly naturalized member is allowed to bring up to three accompanying persons.

The program includes, among other things, music, a DJ set and a barbecue buffet, which offers guests a convivial atmosphere. A special highlight of this celebration is the accompanying campaign “I belong to Mitte! Do you too?”, which introduces committed new citizens and makes their contributions to society visible. Particularly noteworthy is the story of Mahdiah Hashemi, who shares her path to German citizenship and her commitment as the founder of the Afghan women's association MAH in a video.

Importance of naturalization

Naturalization plays a central role in the integration of migrants in Germany. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, Germany has developed into an immigration society in which successful access to the education system and labor market is of great importance for everyone involved. The federal government also plans to make it easier to access German citizenship through modern citizenship law.

Naturalization is evaluated differently in different countries. In Germany it is often seen as a reward for successful integration. Political reforms that facilitate access to citizenship can be seen as crucial steps in promoting economic and social integration, especially for women. Empirical data has shown that faster naturalization improves migrants' labor market participation and income and contributes to gender equality.

Registration for the naturalization ceremony is possible until September 25, 2025 by email to integrationsbüro@ba-mitte.berlin.de. The Office for Participation and Integration is available for further information and those interested can contact the press office at presse@ba-mitte.berlin.de.
