This exhibition reflects a deeper examination of the topic of utopias and dystopias. HowDeutschlandfunk CultureStarting, warn dystopian stories of possible undesirable developments in society, while utopian visions convey hope for a better future. The two concepts offer fertile soil for discussions about what could expect in the future.
Utopias and dystopias have been living topics in literature and art for centuries. They reflect the fears, dreams and hopes of society. The digital institutedescribes how both utopias and dystopias serve as tools to take a critical look at social structures. While utopias dream of social justice and prosperity, dystopias often show oppression and violence. These dual approaches can not only shape our ideas about the future, but also give impulses for changes in society.
Markus Willke's exhibition thus offers an opportunity to actively deal with these concepts and to think about the social and ecological challenges that will employ us present and in the future. A visit to the exhibition could therefore not only be aesthetically enriching, but also toast a deeper reflection on our world and the decisions we make.
