Integration fireworks in Steglitz-Zehlendorf: celebrating 50 years of diversity!”
The nationwide “Intercultural Week” initiative is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Under the motto “for!” Steglitz-Zehlendorf is committed to a diverse week of action that aims to form a strong counterpoint to the right-wing populist mood in the country. This initiative aims to counteract intolerance and exclusion and creates spaces for dialogue and encounters.
The action weeks will take place from September 18th to October 2nd, 2025 and offer a wide range of over 50 events at more than 30 locations in the district. The collaboration takes place with the district Partnership for Democracy and includes numerous actions by organizations, clubs, initiatives and youth facilities. This underlines the commitment of citizens to an open and diverse society, as interkulturwoche.de highlights.
Diverse event program
The program includes workshops, language cafés, international cooking evenings, panel discussions and film screenings. The aim of these diverse offerings is to promote democracy, solidarity and cohesion. According to berlin.de, coordination is ensured by the “Partnership for Democracy Steglitz-Zehlendorf” department, which is part of the federal program “Living Democracy!” of the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
The motto “for!” not only stands for support of an open society, but also serves as a strong symbol against discrimination and group-based misanthropy. It invites solidarity and cohesion in society, which is particularly important in times of growing division. The focus is on human rights and the humane treatment of everyone.
European context
The importance of intercultural dialogue is also recognized at the European level. Thus, in its resolution on the role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education, the European Parliament emphasized that these elements are crucial for promoting the EU's fundamental values. Open and respectful communication between different cultures is seen as essential to support equal opportunities and social cohesion, as europarl.europa.eu shows.
The Intercultural Week therefore represents not only a regional, but also a national and European symbol of diversity and tolerance. The action week in Steglitz-Zehlendorf will therefore offer an important platform for exchange and mutual understanding.
