On July 16, 2025, a festive event took place in the Steakhouse Hazienda Mariendorf in honor of the volunteers of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district. The event, organized by the Office for Social Affairs and the city council, aimed to thank the long-suffering volunteers for their commitment. These volunteers take on a variety of tasks, including leading leisure groups, supporting café operations, household chores, congratulating people on anniversaries and helping in the soup kitchen. Promote volunteer work in the district
Support for volunteer work is not only visible through events like this. The Steglitz-Zehlendorf volunteer agency follows the motto “Do something for yourself and others!” the goal of networking volunteers with regional projects, initiatives and associations. Advice on volunteer opportunities is individual and free of charge. The sponsors of the volunteer agency include the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office, the German Red Cross Berlin Südwest gGmbH, the Diakonisches Werk Steglitz and Teltow-Zehlendorf e.V. and the Mittelhof e.V., such as drk-sz.de highlights.
Those interested can receive advice by telephone or online via Zoom or in person. The volunteer agency is available Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For specific questions about volunteer opportunities for young people, there is the “Young Engagement” working group as well as a district volunteer meeting that takes place every second Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at different locations.
Through the diverse volunteer opportunities, the citizens of Steglitz-Zehlendorf make a decisive contribution to strengthening the community and promoting social coexistence. Anyone interested in volunteer work can contact the Office for Social Affairs at any time, which will help you find suitable contact points and projects.
It is important to maintain a culture of volunteerism and recognize the many volunteers whose work enriches the lives of others and holds the community together. [berlin.de].
