Germans foregoing and desserting: Gastronomy survey shows savings measures when visiting the restaurant

When prices rise, the Germans become creative - even when visiting the restaurant. Around a third likes to leave out the start and dessert as a savings measure, as a current survey by Lightspeed shows. The survey includes more than 7,500 restaurant visitors: inside in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, the USA and the United Kingdom.

The survey confirms that most consumers feel: inside in Germany that the prices for the food have increased in the restaurant. Around 70 percent of German restaurant visitors: Inside, rising prices for the food are observed, while around 60 percent also notice higher drink prices. However, instead of completely avoiding the restaurant visit, the Germans become creative and take various savings measures.

The survey results show that despite increased prices, the Germans do not make a completely fail to visit the restaurant. The survey was carried out by Lightspeed in cooperation with the survey provider Medallia in May 2024. Over 7,500 people from different countries were interviewed worldwide, including 1,000 in Germany. All answers were anonymous and were subjected to a quality check.
