New design for Berlin's sustainability calendar: Apply now!

On September 1, 2025, the Education for Sustainable Development (SBNE) department in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office published the search for a new design and layout concept for the 2027 edition of the Berlin Sustainability Calendar. The calendar, which has been published for four years, has established itself as an important source of information on education for sustainable development

.

With a format of 19 × 26 cm, the pocket calendar is offered free of charge and is of great use not only for employees of the Berlin administration, but also for non-profit initiatives, clubs, institutions and voluntary groups. The calendar provides information about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and includes best practices to promote awareness of sustainability.

Looking for design and project support

We are looking for comprehensive project support for the upcoming project until it goes to press. Interested agencies and individuals can apply until September 30, 2025. The prerequisite is a concept draft of a maximum of three DIN A4 pages as well as relevant references that are not older than three years. The client is the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf District Office, Department of Order, Environment, Streets and Green Spaces.

Applications can be contacted via the head of the SBNE, Lidia Perico, at sbne@charlottenburg-wilmersdorf.de or by telephone at 030 – 9029 12014.

Cooperation in the field of education for sustainable development

The importance of education for sustainable development (ESD) is also underlined by the measures taken by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Since 2015, the BMBF has been coordinating the implementation of the UNESCO programs for ESD in Germany. The aim is to anchor ESD structurally in all areas of education and thus specifically address global challenges, including ecological, economic and social problems

.

A central element of this approach are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the United Nations adopted in 2015. Goal 4 of these SDGs focuses on quality education, with ESD playing a central role.

The National ESD Platform acts as the highest steering body of the ESD process in Germany and brings together decision-makers from politics, business, science and civil society to discuss and implement joint steps to promote ESD.

The ESD portal also provides information about local engagement opportunities and events, promoting practical approaches to education for sustainable development. With events, partner networks and initiatives, all actors are motivated to act and sustainable awareness is created.

Overall, it shows that the Berlin Sustainability Calendar is not only informative, but also practical educational material, which is of increasing importance for social development today.
