Weapons ban at the Berlin Marathon: Safety first!
The Berlin police have issued a strict general order for the upcoming weekend of the 51st BMW Berlin Marathon to ensure public safety. From Saturday, September 20th to Sunday, September 21st, 2025, carrying weapons and knives is prohibited in certain areas of the Mitte district between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central sections along the marathon route are affected, including Friedrichstrasse to Behrenstrasse and Potsdamer Platz.
The ban covers all types of knives, including kitchen and pocket knives, as well as blank guns, irritants and signal weapons. Even holders of a small firearms license are not allowed to carry their weapons with them. In the event of violations, the police will announce the immediate seizure and destruction of the prohibited items and reserve the right to use immediate force.
