Wilfried Peters: New head of the protection of the constitution in Brandenburg!
Berlin, Deutschland - Wilfried Peters becomes the new head of the Brandenburg Constitutional Protection. The Ministry of the Interior announced this decision on Tuesday afternoon. The proposal for Peters came directly from Interior Minister René Wilke (non -party), who described him as a "first choice" for this responsible position. Peters will take up his office on July 14th and has many years of experience because he is currently Vice President of the Berlin Administrative Court and has been working in the administrative court since 1999. This includes an earlier job in the Brandenburg Ministry of Justice and the administration of the state parliament. At the age of 62 and a degree in law studies, Peters also processed questions of the Office for the Office for the Office for the Office.
The reputation of the Protection Protection boss takes place against the background of the constitutional protection affair in Brandenburg. This led to the dismissal of the previous head, Jörg Müller, in May. Due to criticism of the high classification of the AfD, Müller had been criticized as secure right -wing extremist movement. The resignation of former Interior Minister Katrin Lange (SPD) also followed from this affair. For Wilke, Peters' new task is "extremely exciting and at the same time very demanding".
The current situation for the AfD
In a further context, the Brandenburg Constitutional Protection has initially exposed the classification of the AfD Brandenburg as a secure right -wing extremist endeavor. This was done in response to a lawsuit by the AfD before an administrative court. Until the end of this urgent procedure, the AfD regional association will continue to be treated as a suspected case. Therefore, the protection of the constitution made a statement of recovery, which only provides further information from the parliamentary control commission. The AfD state chairman René Springer sees an admission of the state government in this stand-up commitment and describes it as a stage victory for the AfD. The high class, which became known on May 7, immediately received legal contestation after the lawsuit was submitted on May 20. At the federal level, however, the AfD is only treated as a suspected case.In an overall German perspective, the assessment of a secure right -wing extremist potential is still worrying. According to the Protection of the Constitution, the personal potential of violent right-wing extremists in 2024 was around 15,300 people, which is an increase compared to previous years. In particular, the number of right -wing extremist crimes rose to 37,835 offenses, which corresponds to an increase of 47.4 % compared to the previous year.
right -wing extremism in Germany
The increase in right -wing extremist activities is also noticeable in the acts of violence. 1,281 violent offenses were registered in 2024, which means an increase of 11.6 %. The assault offenses with xenophobic background include 916 acts, as well as 983 xenophobic acts of violence. The developments regarding right -wing extremist music events, on the other hand, show a decline, since no such events took place last year after 322 were still counted in 2023.
The political debates in the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia illustrate the different ratings of the AfD by the respective constitutional protection offices. While the AfD is already classified as secured in the latter two federal states, Brandenburg now seems to take a more critical look at the developments with this party through the new management of the protection of the constitution.
