Wild shootout in Schöneberg: Unknowns shoots on a fleeing car!
In the night of Sunday, August 31, 2025, there was a dangerous incident in Tempelhof-Schöneberg when an unknown man shot a moving car. This dramatic incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Yorckstrasse, where a 24-year-old was traveling with his Chevrolet and got into a verbal examination of the shooter.
After a short heated discussion, both men got out of their vehicles. The unknown then pulled out a firearm and opened the fire to the Chevrolet, in which, in addition to the driver, there was also a 27-year-old. The 24-year-old reacted quickly and fled the car while the perpetrator shot on the moving vehicle several times.
Investigations by the police
Fortunately, although the incident was extremely dangerous, no injuries were reported. The police secured several cartridges at the scene and confiscated the Chevrolet, which was hit by the shots. A specialist commissioner of Police Directorate 4 (south) has started the investigation to clarify the background and identity of the perpetrator, who fled in an unknown direction after the change of shooting.
Such acts of violence highlight the increasing problems with violent crime in Germany. Like one Statista -Analysis shows that violent crimes make up less than 4% of all police crimes in Germany, but they significantly influence people's feeling of security. The number of acts of violence has increased again since 2021, which is attributed to economic uncertainties and social stress.
Social effects
Around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in 2024 - the highest number since 2007. A worrying trend is that the proportion of young violent offenders has increased in these crimes. Around a third of the suspects were younger than 21 years in the last statistics. These developments mean that more and more people in Germany see violence and aggression against people from politics, police and rescue services as a major problem, whereby a survey from May 2024 showed that 94% of the respondents confirm this.
The action in Schöneberg is another example of the challenges with which society is confronted with regard to violent crime. The police hope to soon put light on the dark through targeted investigations and to take the unknown shooters.
