Volker Beck on the location in Gaza: Fire break and exchange of terrorists for hostages

Volker Beck, a politician of the Greens, commented on the current Situation in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that the wounds caused by the attack of Hamas can only heal if all hostages are freed and the danger of Hamas is eliminated. He pleaded for a break of fire and the exchange of terrorists for prisoners to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and end the suffering of hostages and their families. Beck made it clear that Hamas cannot end the war by demanding the release of the hostages. He emphasized that the war can only end when Hamas surrendered and gives up its weapons.

With regard to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the President of the German-Israeli Society said that the care was difficult. On the one hand, according to Beck's information, help, which Israel is brought into the Gaza Strip, is used by Hamas to pursue her political goals. On the other hand, Hamas threatens with the death penalty for anyone who supports Israel in the distribution of food and sees this as a betrayal of the people.

BECK pointed out that in other conflicts neighboring countries have opened their limits for refugee civilians, but this did not happen in this case. He emphasized that a political initiative would have been necessary to open the border with Egypt.

In terms of the Netanyahus government, Beck determined a loss of trust in the Israeli population and advocated new elections to give the government a new legitimation.

In conclusion, Beck rejected Nicaragua's lawsuit before the UN court in which Germany is accused of favoring a genocide in the Gaza War. He emphasized that Nicaragua's lawsuit is politically motivated and therefore there is no basis for rethinking the federal government.
