Podium discussion: Voices from Israel and Gaza - Dialogue for Peace!
On July 22, 2025, a panel discussion with the title "Voices from Israel and Gaza" will take place in the Köpenick Central Library. The event, which begins at 7:00 p.m., aims to create space for encounter, exchange and understanding. This initiative is supported by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, which provides funds on anti -Semitism prevention and strengthening of democracy. The event format enables an open and respectful dialogue, in which questions from the audience are also very welcome.
The discussion is moderated by Arie Shulov, the representative for anti-Semitism prevention in Treptow-Köpenick. Shay Dashevsky, an activist of the project "I am from Israel - Ask Me Anything", as well as Hamza Howidy, who will report on his experiences as a born in Gaza and refugee student in Germany, will report on his experiences. Howidy took part in protests against living conditions and the Hamas leadership in Gaza in 2019 before finally fled to Germany.
context and relevance of the discussion
This critical argument comes at a time when the topic of anti -Semitism in Germany and internationally increasingly focuses on. On May 10, 2023, the Federal Party Conference of the DIE LINKE decided to use the "Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism" (JDA) in their work. The JDA is considered controversial because critics, like Gerald Steinberg, argue that it reveals Nazi comparisons and anti-Zionism from anti-Semitism-which could have worrying effects on the social debate about Israel and Palestine.
An incident in 2024, in which the President of the Technical University of Berlin Likete Likete, shows how sensitive and polarizes this discussion is shown. The Center for Anti -Semitism Research in Berlin is considered the main player in the distribution of the JDA and also deals with the connection between Isralliebe and Islam hostility.
Invitation to the differentiated debate
In this context, it is particularly important to hear critical voices of Palestinians who speak against Hamas and for peace. These perspectives are often ignored in the German debate. A growing number of Palestinians in Diaspora calls for a differentiated view of the Palestinian society. They reject this narrative that Hamas should be regarded as a legitimate resistance and are committed to a peaceful dialogue with Israel.
The upcoming panel discussion offers a platform to hear and discuss exactly these differentiated perspectives. It is part of a more comprehensive commitment in Germany to deal with and combat anti -Semitism, especially in the light of current events. In order to gain better insights into the topic, international conferences, such as those from the International Institute for the Study of Anti -Semitism, can also offer a valuable perspective by analyzing changes and developments in anti -Semitism as well as its historical foundations.
