Official security measures due to defects in Fennstrasse 31

A serious situation at Fennstrasse 31 requires quick action

There is a precarious situation at Fennstrasse 31 in Treptow-Köpenick, which is characterized by significant deficiencies in the stability of the building and the fire protection. After the water supply was interrupted due to leaking pipes, it became clear that the building was no longer habitable due to the risk of uncontrolled water leaks.

In order to support the affected residents, the district office has set up a tap point to temporarily supply them with drinking water. After a thorough examination, it was decided that the building must be evacuated and the residents must be accommodated in adequate accommodation.

The district's social welfare office and the building and housing inspectorate have provided comprehensive information and offered residents various housing options, including hotel rooms and holiday apartments. A public law contract with the owner regulates the accommodation and relocation of the residents.

It is planned to begin the renovation work after the residents have moved out in order to make the building habitable again. Despite the set schedule for moving out by July 16, 2024, new people were seen moving into the apartments that had already been vacated. However, the district office will continue to ensure that all residents are provided with socially adequate accommodation.

Due to the existing risk situation, the use of the building will not be possible beyond July 16, 2024. The district office is on site to continue to support residents and offer alternative accommodation options to ensure a safe environment for all those affected.
