Patient Safety Day: Free emergency doses in the Hafen-Center!

On August 28, 2025, an important event will take place in front of the Tempelhofer Hafen-Center that is entirely dedicated to patient safety. This event was initiated to inform the public about the challenges of safe healthcare and emphasize the importance of informed patients. The free distribution of emergency doses is accompanied by extensive advice and information on the subject of patient safety. The district councilor for youth and health, Oliver Schworck, emphasizes how important patient safety is for the healthy care of all citizens.

Many organizations are responsible for this initiative, including the advice center for people with disabilities, the General Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Berlin and the Berlin Consumer Center. Together they work to promote awareness of patient safety in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district.

World Patient Safety Day

Today marks World Patient Safety Day, declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). The aim of this global day of action is to provide all patients with appropriate care and to inform the population about available healthcare options. The WHO has formulated measures to improve patient safety and prevent avoidable harm in healthcare as part of the “Global Action Plan for Patient Safety 2021 – 2030”. This plan, launched in 2019 at the 72nd World Health Assembly, is considered by Member States as a strategic direction to improve patient safety worldwide. Loud socialminister.gv.at Unsafe supplies are one of the leading causes of death, leading to approximately 2.6 million deaths each year.

The emergency container being given away today is a small green and white container intended for people with health problems. It should be stored in the refrigerator door and contains an emergency information sheet with important information about health status, medications, relevant contacts and pets. In this way, you can react quickly in an emergency.

The role of partnerships in patient safety

In the context of patient safety, the WHO action plan calls for synergy between different actors in the health sector. The strategic orientation also includes the involvement of patients and their families in healthcare. A “no blame” culture that promotes transparency and responsibility is considered essential to continuously improve patient safety and learn from mistakes. The focus should be on creating highly reliable systems that ensure healthcare is effective and people-centered.

The health departments of the Tempelhof Health Department and the Health Planning and Coordination Office support the goals of the World Day and actively contribute to raising awareness among the population. It also underlines that the successful implementation of high safety standards in healthcare requires clear guidelines, trained staff and comprehensive data analysis.

Overall, Patient Safety Day is not only an opportunity to provide information about current topics, but also a platform to further expand health-promoting measures in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district and to increase awareness of safe medical care. Further information about supporting facilities is available on the Patient Safety Day website.
