the villa and her heir
The Schwartzsche Villa has an eventful story that goes back to the late 19th century. After Carl Schwartz's death in 1915, the villa was still inhabited by its daughters. After the Second World War, the building served various purposes before it went into the property of the State of Berlin in 1961. The dream of cultural use was realized by the cultural initiative Lankwitz and the later founded sponsoring association Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa.
With an investment volume of around 10 million marks, the villa was transformed into a cultural center as part of a conversion and opened its gates for the public in 1995. The diverse facilities inside include a gallery, a concert and event hall, a room theater and workshops for different artistic disciplines. A café that offers training positions for people with disabilities is also on the ground floor.
The park behind the villa, which has been named Charkiw-Park since October 2022, also enriches the surroundings and invites visitors to relax. Events such as exhibitions, concerts and art courses for children make the Schwartzsche villa a living center of culture and creativity in Berlin.
The Schwartzsche Villa is not only a place for art and culture, but also an important part of the cultural heritage of Steglitz-Zehlendorf.
