Spandauer Women's and Girls' March: Diversity against racism 2026!

On October 7, 2025, preparations for international women's day on March 8, 2026 are already in full swing. The "Spandau girl and women's marärz" will be connected to the "international weeks against racism" this year. This is another step to strengthen awareness of the rights of women and girls and to draw attention to the challenges in the field of gender equality. According to [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/ba-pandau/aktuelles/Pressemayeilungen/2025/Pressemage department, numerous actions, workshops and guided tours are planned for this.

International Women's Day itself was institutionalized by the United Nations in 1975, but originally its origin goes back to an initiative of socialist organizations in 1909 in the USA. It was celebrated for the first time on March 19, 1911 and later, in 1921, set to March 8 as a fixed date. This historical development has led to the fact that today the day is celebrated as a holiday in many countries, including in Germany, where it was introduced in 2019 as a statutory holiday, according to Wikipedia.

Diverse events and review

The program in the Spandauer Action März is designed in many ways. In retrospect for March 2025, classic sound worlds of women in the music school Spandau, rap workshops and a historic city walk with spandau women were carried out. In addition, cooking together was organized with Eulalia, and a sign against racism was set in front of the Spandau town hall to draw attention to the challenges that continue to exist. It is called for participation and implementation of your own ideas to actively address and discuss the topics of women's rights and racism. For those interested, a planning meeting for the Spandauer Action März 2026 takes place: On October 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. online and on November 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the town hall Spandau, as [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/ba-pandau/aktuMage-silungen/2025/Pressemage. 1601824.php).

International Women's Day has developed over the years from a day for agitation for women's voting right to a comprehensive platform to combat discrimination and violence against women. The motto for international women's day 2025 reads: "For all women and girls: rights, equivalence and empowerment", as bpb.de. Despite slight progress in gender justice, the path to complete equality remains rocky.

Challenges in gender equality

The challenges are enormous. In many areas, women and girls are often affected by poverty, inadequate health care and gender -specific violence. The gender play gap is still significant and access to education is limited for many. The numbers in Germany are also alarming: Every third woman becomes a victim of physical or sexualized violence at least once, and the number of cases of partnership violence increases continuously. In 2023, a total of 167,639 cases of partnership were reported in Germany, which means an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the previous year, so bpb.de.

The organizers of International Women's Day and those responsible in Spandau are committed to a better future in which women are strengthened and promoted equality. The commitment to women's rights is indispensable to combat the diverse discrimination that women are still exposed to. Information on the program and participation are available on the website of the action market, as well as by email to the responsible bodies.
