Social offices shortly before collapse: CDU demands urgent solutions!

Berlin, Deutschland - The overload of the Berlin social welfare offices has now achieved alarming proportions. An employee processes an average of around 300 cases, while an appropriate number of cases should be 115 according to a study by the Berlin head of office. This discrepancy means that the target brand of reducing the number of cases to a portable extent is currently a further far, as the Berliner Zeitung reports.

CDU politician Tim Richter emphasizes that this problem deals with people's well-being who urgently need advice and support. At the same time, he expresses the desire for additional positions and progress in digitization to improve the situation in the offices. In a comprehensive "fire letter", written by Hannes Rehfeldt, social councilor of Neukölln, and eleven other district councilors, the overload is also mentioned as a central problem.

causes of overload

The reasons for the overload of the social welfare offices are diverse. According to the fire letter, the causes are, among other things, an increase in new cases as a result of the Ukraine secretary, the increase in the number of cases in basic security and the help for care. In addition, there is the complexity of the processing and frequent changes to the legal framework. The high personnel fluctuation, due to suboptimal working conditions, additionally exacerbates the situation. In some cases, employees have to edit over 500 files, which is unsustainable.

The fire letter therefore calls for the extension of 155 positions that have been approved since 2022 but are limited. 151 employees are currently employed in the Neukölln Social Welfare Office, but an additional need for 52 full -time equivalents for a portable case rate is cited. A need of 673 full -time positions is estimated across all districts in order to relieve the employees and to guarantee appropriate waiting times for the citizens.

Problem of digitization

Another critical point concerns the failed digitization of the social offices. As reported in the taz, the social welfare portal had to be abandoned due to technical problems. The need for a comprehensive digital processing option, which enables digital processing throughout digital, is considered urgent. The Senate plans to determine personnel requirements that should be completed by the end of the year, but it will come too late for the current double household anyway.

It is obvious that the Berlin social welfare offices, if they are not reformed as quickly as possible and reinforced as quickly as possible, are not up to the challenges of the future. The signs are on the alarm, and it remains to be hoped that the responsible bodies will recognize the necessary need for action.
