On November 7, 2024, the new feature film "September 5" by director Tim Fehsbaum will be published in Constantin Film's cinema. The multi-award-winning Swiss director tells the history of the 1972 Olympic attack from a unique perspective. Never before was this historical event, which marked the beginning of transnational terrorism, filmed in Germany. It proves the influence of the media, not only in the 1970s.
September 5 celebrated its world premiere on August 29, 2024 at the 81st Biennale in Venice: The International Film Festival of Venice announced that September 5 is shown as an opening film of the Orizzonti competition section.
The film is about the 1972 Olympic attack in Munich. The ABC Sports team reports live about the 21-hour hostage-taking, although its own news department is against it. Geoff, a young, ambitious producer, takes over the management of the live broadcast with the help of the German interpreter Marianne. Time pushes and Geoff has to make difficult decisions and deal with its own moral compass.
The film addresses the central question of how such a situation can be reported if the perpetrators use media attention for their purposes.
Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin and Leonie Benesch play in the leading roles. The thriller was largely shot in the Bavaria Studios and at original locations in Munich.
September 5 was funded by the FFF Bayern, Bavarian banking fund, Hessen Film & Medien, the FFA, the DFFF and the BKM.
This film will surely impress the audience with its unique perspective on the 1972 Olympic attack and draw attention to how media reporting can affect such events.
The cinema release from September 5 is on November 7, 2024 in the rental of Constantin Film.
