Shock in Berlin: child kidnappers overwhelmed on the street!

A disturbing incident occurred in Berlin on Tuesday when an 18-year-old attempted to kidnap a two-year-old child. According to information from the Daily Mirror said the young man to the child on the street on Winckelmannstrasse, at the corner of Köpenicker Strasse, and picked him up in his arms before running away with him.

The child's mother, a 29-year-old, reacted immediately and pursued the perpetrator. A violent attack ensued in which the suspect pushed the woman against a wall, punched her in the face and refused to hand over the child. Passers-by noticed the altercation and rushed to help, which ultimately led to the mother getting her son back. The suspected kidnapper was then arrested and subjected to identification processing. Because of his unusual behavior, he was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. The mother had to undergo outpatient treatment for facial bruises.

Statistics on crime in Germany

However, there were also worrying trends: Violent crime rose by 1.5% and reached 217,277 cases, the highest level since 2007. Children and young people were particularly affected, which is clear in the statistics: there was an increase of 11.3% among suspected children to 13,755, while the number among young people increased by 3.8% to 31,383.

  • Gewaltkriminalität: +1,5 % auf 217.277 Fälle
  • Tatverdächtige Kinder: +11,3 % auf 13.755
  • Tatverdächtige Jugendliche: +3,8 % auf 31.383

There were also increases in sexual offenses, insults and offenses against personal freedom of 9.3%, 5.8% and 5.3% respectively. At the same time, drug crime fell by 34.2%, although there was an increase in certain drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine. These figures underline the complexity of the current security situation in Germany.

The incident in Berlin shows that despite an overall decline in crime, the issue of violence against women and children remains a serious challenge that continues to concern society and the police.
