Citizen participation in focus

Another important aspect of citizen participation in Berlin was the citizens' summit, which took place on February 16 and 17. This was part of a large -scale dialogue on the subject of "demographic change", organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Citizens between the ages of 17 and 84 developed central recommendations to counter the challenges of demographic change. The following five recommendations were formulated:

  1. equal educational opportunities for all generations, regions and social classes.
  2. Mandatory kindergarten visit for children with language support.
  3. Life -oriented personnel policy of companies.
  4. cross -age habitats are flexible and inclusive.
  5. Introduction of a social year for young people for personal orientation.
  6. The results of the citizen dialogue, in which 100 participants took part, reflect the will to overcome barriers between the generations and various population groups. Georg Schütte, State Secretary in the BMBF, thanked the participants and announced that it would include the proposals in the political strategy of the federal government. This shows how important the citizens' opinion is in the current political landscape.

Neukölln thus represents a lively example of citizen participation, where not only politics, but also the population is included in decision -making processes in order to improve the quality of life in the district.
