New mensage building for the Stechlinse primary school: timber construction for future!
The district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg plans to build a modern mental building in a modular timber construction for the Stechline primary school. The aim of this investment measure is to ensure the legal requirements for free school lunch at primary schools, while at the same time the offer is expanded to develop the school on a 3-drawing primary school location. The existing school building and the associated schoolyard are listed, which makes planning particularly challenging in coordination with the preservation of monuments.
After completing the menage construction, a redesign of the publicly used playground on the school property is also planned. In order to include the school community, in particular the pupils, in the planning process, several participatory formats have already been carried out. The aim of these was to create transparency, to clarify open questions and to collect ideas and suggestions for participation.
Construction design and materials
The planned manage building is built with a rear-ventilated and insulated wooden stand construction, with the choice of materials for cladding in close cooperation with the preservation of monuments. The dining room of the new building is glazed on three sides, which should provide a bright and friendly atmosphere. In addition, a loggia on the south side of the building will offer both protection against rain and serve as sun protection.
The flat roof of the male building is extensively greened, and it is intended to install photovoltaic systems at suitable places in order to meet the energetic standards. The modular construction methods, which were also developed for educational institutions, guarantee high flexibility and adaptability to specific needs and property areas. These models are designed in such a way that they can act as temporary solutions with increasing number of students and as permanent replacement buildings.
Integration of the community and information events
An information event took place on September 29, 2025 to inform the resident and users of the playground about the upcoming measures. These formats underline the open dialogue between the planners and the school community, which is of fundamental importance for the success of this project.
Overall, the construction project for the Stechlinse primary school not only promises a modernization of the infrastructure, but also an improvement in the quality of life for the pupils and the residents. The combination of innovative timber construction and the consideration of monument conservation aspects shows the committed endeavor of the district to make educational institutions sustainable.
