New grave field at the Heidefriedhof: Burials now possible!

On October 11, 2025, the new department G01 was opened at the Heidefriedhof in Mariendorf, Berlin. The opening will take place at Reißeckstrasse 14, 12107 Berlin, and marks a significant step in the care of mourners and funeral offerings in the region. In this special grave field there are a total of 286 earthen graves for adults and 17 earthen graves for children.

The gravesites face Mecca and therefore offer Muslims an appropriate burial option. From now on, the burials in this new grave field will be integrated into the regular funeral operations. Every Tuesday, interested families can attend two separate appointments for burials in a coffin or without a coffin.

Details about the allocation of gravesites

The allocation of grave sites only takes place after registration by a funeral home, as reservations are not possible. For further information, relatives can contact the cemetery administration by telephone daily between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. It is also possible to submit written inquiries via email.

The Heidefriedhof is an important urban facility that was built in 1951 by the architect Bernhard Kynast. With an area of 175,771 m², it offers space for numerous graves and a central axis that leads through juniper and heather to the modern funeral hall. The cemetery also contains a memorial for war victims of the Second World War, which includes 624 individual graves as well as a collective grave, which underlines the historical significance of the place.

Public accessibility and infrastructure

The Heidefriedhof is easily accessible and is located in the Mariendorf district in the south of Berlin. The main entrance is at the intersection of Reißeckstraße/Am Heidefriedhof. The connection to local public transport is ensured by subway line 6 with the Alt Mariendorf stop and several bus lines such as 179, 181, 277, M76 and X76, which stop at the Am Heidefriedhof stop.

The costs for burials at the Heidefriedhof vary depending on the type of burial. The grave usage rights for a burial in the ground with a coffin are between 940.00 and 1,960.00 euros, while the fees for an urn burial are between 830.00 and 1,500.00 euros. The fees for carrying out the funeral itself also vary. A coffin burial costs between 220.00 and 290.00 euros, while an urn burial costs 160.00 euros.

In addition to grave usage rights and fees, the design of gravesites is also an important issue in the cemetery. The prices for gravestones and the associated design vary depending on the size and type of grave site.

The Heidefriedhof, as part of the municipal funeral system, follows the legal framework that is regulated, among other things, in the Burial Act and the cemetery statutes. These regulations concern the design and maintenance of gravesites as well as the obligation to bury deceased persons who must be buried in cemeteries recognized by public law.

Overall, the opening of the new department G01 at the Heidefriedhof in Mariendorf shows the efforts to meet the needs of different mourning cultures and to create a respectful space for the final rest. For further information and an overview of the types of burial available, those interested can visit the official websites of the Berlin-Tempelhof-Schöneberg district office and the cemetery.
