New meeting place for refugees: Open door in Tempelhof!
On September 11, 2025, an open day took place in the new LAF accommodation for refugees on Potsdamer Straße, organized by Prisod Wohnheimbetriebs GmbH. The event was attended by numerous residents and employees from district offices to get to know the accommodation and what it offers. District mayor Jörn Oltmann warmly welcomed those present and praised the successful organization of the event. In his speech, he emphasized the urgency of creating more decentralized accommodation for refugees and of having fewer large accommodations like those in Tegel or Tempelhof.
The new accommodation is located in a historically significant building that formerly served as the headquarters of the German Labor Front, which destroyed unions and abolished the right to strike during the Nazi era. Oltmann recalled this dark history to underline the importance of democratic values and the protection of refugees, which ensure the inalienable dignity of every human being in accordance with the Basic Law.
