Refurbishment and new building: Anna-Lindh School in Berlin-Mitte is being expanded
The Anna-Lindh School in Guineastraße 17-18 is fundamentally renovated and expanded. This is decided by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing, the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family as well as the Mitte district office. The listed school building is extensively renovated and supplemented by a new building with a sports hall. The renovation is carried out in administrative assistance for the Mitte district by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living. The decision complies with both the urgent need for additional school places in the Mitte district as well as the concerns of monument protection.
The Anna-Lindh primary school has been a listed building since 1995. Due to mold, the school had to be closed in August 2022, and school operations were moved to another building. A comprehensive roof renovation was carried out from October 2019 to 2023 for 4.1 million euros. The estimated funds for building renovation and expansion are already included in the investment planning of the Mitte district. The new school building on the site is financed by the Berlin school building offensive.
The planning provides for a new school building in the rear area on Togostraße as well as the careful renovation and expansion of the listed building on Guineastraße. The pupils who are currently housed in an alternative location are to move into the new school building, which is currently being built by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living.
The Anna-Lindh School will be operated as a community school in the future, even though it has so far been used as a primary school. In coordination with the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, the school office in the district of Mitte will send the further information necessary to the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living in order to start the planning process.
The implementation of these measures will have a positive effect on the school position situation in the Mitte district and create a modern learning environment for the students. It is expected that the current planning process will result in findings on the time implementation and completion.
