Together for climate justice: the fair week 2024 in Mitte
In the context of the fair week 2024, which takes place in Berlin-Mitte from September 13th to 27th, the community campaigns for the important topic of climate justice. This happens under the inviting motto "Mitte fair. And no more degrees!". This series of action offers a platform for discussions and creative events that are intended to help promote more conscious use of our planet.
The "Mitte Fair & Sustainable" campaign alliance has organized a wide range of events that not only raise awareness of fair trade, but also promote commitment to sustainable practices in society. Projects in various formats such as exhibitions, workshops, discussion groups and creative actions are offered.
A central focus is on the exhibition "Decolonize fair trade: colonial continuities in fair trade", which will be presented at Oudenarder Straße 16 from September 13th to 27th. This exhibition suggests thinking about the colonial roots of fair trade and developing solutions that promote a fairer future. The special relevance of this topic is shown in the way in which historical injustice continues to have an effect on today.
In addition, the open-air exhibition "Amazonia-the largest rainforest on earth and we" is shown at the Dorothea-Schlegel from September 18 to October 15th. This exhibition is intended to raise awareness of the protection of Rainforest and biodiversity and at the same time link local and global environmental issues.
On September 14th, a “vegan info brunch” will take place at Waldenser Strasse 13, which illuminates the advantages of a plant -based diet and thus propagates a healthy lifestyle and responsible use of resources. In addition, the three-year birthday of the Supercoop interaction supermarket is celebrated at Oudenarder Straße 16, a place that lives in exemplary lives the concept of fair trade.
A particularly exciting offer is the panel discussion "Fair trade in the UN decade of people of African origin" on September 21. Here experts and interested parties are brought together to discuss the challenges and possibilities of fair trade in the context of African diaspora.
The fair week has a long tradition in Germany and has steadily gained in size and meaning in the past 20 years. Every year, around 2,000 events nationwide take part in what makes the fair week the largest action week for fair trade in Germany. This variety of events is a strong sign of growing sensitivity within society with regard to fair trade practices and sustainable development.
The commitment of the campaign alliance shows the strength of the cooperation between various social actors, including associations, organizations, politics and the local economy. If you are interested in working, you can contact the alliance at Fairtrade@ba-mitte.berlin.de.
