Artistic cooperation: Kunstbrücke Berlin-Bottrop at the Lessing-Gymnasium-a review

A creative connection between Berlin Mitte and Bottrop

The Kunstbrücke Cities Partnership project 2024 took place from July 8th to 12th at the Lessing-Gymnasium and brought together the cities of Berlin Mitte and Bottrop again. Initiated 14 years ago by artist Bernadine Lützenburg and Ulrich Davids, City Councilor A.D. Berlin-Mitte, the successful cooperation is now continued by Johannes Fundermann.

The artists Tanja Schminder and Helga Brune from the Bottrop Artgassen worked with students of grade 6 for a week. Together they created an impressive mural entitled "Window and Portals", which reflects the variety of the two cities. Accompanied by the district and support of the middle museum, a detailed collage was created that combines skill and creativity.

To solemn unveiling of the artwork on July 12, 2024, in addition to parents and students, high -ranking guests such as district mayor Stefanie Remlinger, school city councilor Benjamin Fritz and representatives of the city twinning association Mitte. They praised the commitment of those involved and emphasized the importance of city twinning for cultural exchange.

The impressive mural will in the future be admired in the staircase of the Lessing Gymnasium and will be open to everyone after prior registration in the school secretariat. Many thanks to everyone involved, including headmaster Michael Wüstenberg, artist Oliver Goldacker from the Middle Museum, the city of Bottrop and the city twinning association Berlin-Mitte, for the successful implementation of this artistic bridge between the cities.

The next art bridge is planned for 2025, in which an artist from the Mitte district will work in Bottrop.
