Brand attack on Rathaus Tiergarten: District Office Mitte condemned attack
In a recently published press release No. 100/2024 of May 10, 2024, the deputy district mayor and district councilor informed Carsten Spallek, Carsten Spallek, about a shocking arson attack on the Tiergarten town hall and smearing at part of the facade of the building in the district. Spallek convicted the attack and emphasized that destruction, violence and threats were never acceptable. He hopes that the perpetrators can be held accountable.
The incident occurred in the night of Ascension Day when unknown people hit a window in the side wing of the town hall and laid fire. In addition, slogans and threats in connection with the Middle East conflict were sprayed on the back of the building. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but considerable property damage occurred in the building.
It should be noted that the Tiergarten town hall has already been the goal of anching in Israel in the past, in particular since the terrorist attack on Jewish people in Israel in October 2023. There were attacks on the displays there with an exhibition on Jewish doctors in the Moabit hospital during the Nazi era and the torn down of the flag of Israel off the building. In addition, other Jewish facilities in the Mitte district, including a synagogue and the Jewish hospital, were also attacked.
It is expected that the smearings will be eliminated by the end of the day. The district office Mitte has set up a press office to coordinate media inquiries and provide additional information. This incident underlines the importance of engagement for peaceful coexistence and the rejection of hatred and exclusion in multicultural communities.
