Lichtenberg: Libraries expand opening hours and offers!

The Lichtenberg City Library has expanded its opening hours after the summer holidays. From now on it opens until 6 p.m. on Saturdays. This is part of a new offer that particularly aims to appeal to families and children. In addition to the extended opening hours, the Anton Saefkow Library, the Bodo Uhse Library and the Egon Erwin Kisch Library are also open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from September to early December 2025. The focus is on offering citizens an attractive and varied program.

The event program includes a variety of workshops and hands-on activities that are particularly aimed at younger visitors. The current program begins with a launch event on Sunday September 7th with musician Emma Greenfield. She will perform the play “Monkey and Me – The Ship of Feelings” for children at 3 and 4 p.m.

Diverse creative offers

On the following Saturday, September 13th, a “world reading trip” for children aged four and over will take place in the Anna Seghers Library at 3 p.m. There will also be creative offers such as designing fanfolds in the Egon Erwin Kisch Library, painting fabric bags in the Bodo Uhse Library, as well as manga drawing and upcycling activities. Topics such as hand lettering and the design of cards and wrapping paper are also on the program.

A special offer is the laughter yoga sessions, which will take place on September 6th and 20th and will be offered weekly on Saturdays at 2 p.m. in the Anton Saefkow Library from October 25th. Standing and sitting yoga are also planned on September 14th and October 19th, while the patchwork dance will take place on September 20th and October 25th at 4 p.m. in the Bodo Uhse Library. All events are free of charge and open up new opportunities for citizens to actively participate.

Practical information for library visitors

During the new opening hours, specialist staff will be available on Saturdays until 1 p.m. Visitors can then use the libraries independently. Borrowing, returning and paying fees are then carried out via machines. Further information about the events and offers can be found at www.berlin.de/stadtbibliothek-lichtenberg/wochenende available.

The city libraries are located at the following addresses:

  • Anna-Seghers-Bibliothek, Prerower Platz 2, 13051 Berlin
  • Anton-Saefkow-Bibliothek, Anton-Saefkow-Platz 14, 10369 Berlin
  • Bodo-Uhse-Bibliothek, Erich-Kurz-Straße 9, 10319 Berlin
  • Egon-Erwin-Kisch-Bibliothek, Frankfurter Allee 149, 10365 Berlin

These innovations are part of a comprehensive concept that the Lichtenberg City Library is pursuing to strengthen the reading culture and participation in educational offerings. The numerous events and offers create a space in which knowledge and creativity can be promoted.
