Climate protection is child protection: Terre des Hommes demands measures!
Imagine that the September 20th is not only celebrated as a World Children's Day, but also as the day on which the voice of the youngest is raised! On this significant date, the child rights organization Terre des Hommes shows how serious it is: The motto is "Climate protection is child protection - politics must act!" And you have good reasons to scream this out!
The first steps are already taken! Numerous committed volunteers and employees of Hommes will take part in the climate strike. The importance of this use is shown in the worrying knowledge that the future of children is often negligent. "Child right to healthy environment and climate justice are essential for the future of children worldwide," emphasizes Joshua Hofert, the spokesman for the organization. But where is the interest of politics?
helplessness of the young environmental fighters
The sad truth: Children's rights and climate justice seem to have little weight in the political circles. "Young people who fight for the protection of their environment are often in the crosshair of oppression," warns Hofert. These committed young activists not only risk their well -being, but also fight against massive threats - in some cases even for their lives.
The terrifying numbers of global witness make you speechless! In 2023, 196 environmental activists were killed, including 79 in Colombia alone. The reasons are alarming: they face the interests of powerful corporations, especially when it comes to the exploitation of raw materials and the clearing of huge forest areas. "If resources have endangered the livelihood of the villagers, many are ready to protest, no matter what risk they take!"
a right to our earth
terre des Hommes is tirelessly committed to ensuring that the rights of young environmental activists are recognized and protected worldwide. A year ago even the UN officially recognized this child's right! But that's not all: the organization demands from the federal government and globally operating companies to better protect the lifesaver in this crisis. "The activists risk their lives for future generations. They deserve protection, now!" Said Hofert.
The message is clear: the government has to put pressure on ensuring that violence against these brave fighters does not remain unpunished. And whoever thinks that companies could keep up here is wrong: they are challenged to end contracts with partners, disregard human rights and environmental rights. It is time to take responsibility - for today and tomorrow's children!
