Climate protection in traffic: New study criticizes state subsidies
A necessary change of course in transport policy for a better climate
The current study entitled "Quantification of the greenhouse effect of state benefits in Germany", which was drawn up on behalf of the Federal Government, is open to urgent need for action for sustainable transport policy in Germany. Above all, the United Service Union (ver.di) emphasizes that two thirds of the climate -damaging subsidies flow in the traffic sector and thus have enormous negative effects on the environment.
Christine Behle, the deputy federal chairman of ver.di, comments concerned about this development. She finds that the subsidies for traffic are often counterproductive. Examples such as the energy tax benefits for diesel fuels or the special regulations for company cars illustrate how state support goes in the wrong direction. These subsidies contribute significantly to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions and contradict the goals of climate protection.
A central concern of the study is the question of what the funds available in the federal budget are used for. Behle criticizes that there are hardly any financial resources for local public transport (public transport), while at the same time enormous sums flow into environmentally harmful subsidies. The focus should be on solutions that are both ecologically and socially sustainable.
The call to change is clear: there are numerous concepts and ideas to make traffic more climate-friendly, both for the goods and for personal transport. Behle emphasizes that these ideas not only have to exist on paper, but have to be put into practice. The standstill, which was caused by the "silent funeral of the expansion and modernization pact", shows that the urgently needed traffic transition has not yet been seriously pursued.
The results of this study are not only of interest to experts, but also affect all citizens who suffer from the consequences of inadequate transport policy. A rethinking in traffic promotion could not only positively influence the climate, but also significantly improve the quality of life in the cities. However, this requires the political will to take the necessary steps and question existing structures.
Time is pushing and the need for action could not be higher. A switch to environmentally friendly traffic solutions is essential to achieve the climate goals and to secure the quality of life in Germany for future generations.
In the focus, a nnurs must create sustainable traffic that combines ecological awareness and social responsibility.
