Jordan shoots Iranian drones - collaboration with NATO countries
In the night of Sunday, Jordan took part in a campaign to defend Iranian drones who were traveling towards Jerusalem. According to reports, the Jordanian fighter jets managed to intercept dozens of the drones near the Iraqi-Syrian border. The Jordan government confirmed the incident on Sunday morning and explained that the shot objects had penetrated into the Jordanian airspace without injuring people or buildings or causing greater damage.
Despite the successful defense measure, Iran Jordan warned of a interference in the conflict and threatened that the country could become the “next goal”. Jordan had previously announced to shoot drones if they violated airspace. As a precaution, Jordan temporarily closed airspace on Saturday evening and only reopened it after ten hours on Sunday morning due to security concerns in view of the escalating risks in the region.
The approach of Jordan is considered remarkable, since it was not only against Iran, but also against direct Arab countries such as Syria. The "Jerusalem Post" praised this step and emphasized that it underlines the transformation from hostility to partnership. Before the peace treaty with Israel in 1995, Jordan was a military opponent of Israel for decades.
