Johanniter-accident aid joins climate alliance Germany: a strong signal for climate protection
The big turn in the fight against climate change: Johanniter-Accident Aid, one of the most important aid organizations in Germany, sets a clear sign and is now part of the climate alliance Germany! This decision was unanimously confirmed at the membership conference. With their joining this impressive alliance, which unites over 150 members from various areas such as the environment, church, health and more, the Johanniter increases the pressure in climate protection. Here is tackled together!
climate protection is not just a trend, but a central field of action in the sustainability strategy of the Johanniter, which was only specified last year. "We see ourselves as a strong partner in the climate alliance and want to actively contribute to reducing our CO2 emissions," explains Thomas Mähnert, member of the federal board. This is a clear confession! The Johanniter have ambitious goals: a significant reduction in CO2 footprint in the coming years.
a powerful commitment to climate protection
At the German Climate Day on October 15, which was under the motto "Strengthen what connects us: with new alliances for climate protection", the Johanniter resolved their ideas. Anne Ernst, head of the crisis management & emergency aid division, illustrates: "The protection of people from the catastrophic effects of climate change is our mission. We have to raise awareness of these dangers and constantly develop the strategy for coping with disaster." In view of the increasingly common weather extreme, such as floods, heavy rain and heat periods, the Johanniter rely on proactive preventive measures.
The Dresden explanation from April 2023 is the official framework of this development. The Johanniter undertook to include all three dimensions of sustainability - economically, ecologically and socially - in their strategy. Climate protection is only one aspect of many. Six fields of action were identified: climate, employees, society, customers, sustainability management and costs. All of this is done in the sense of ensuring a future worth living for future generations.
a huge network for help and support
The Johanniter-Accident Aid is a real force in the social economy with more than 31,000 employees and around 46,000 volunteers. The organization is involved in many important areas: from emergency services to disaster protection to the support of children and adolescents. With almost 1.2 million sponsoring members, they are not only a prominent face of humanitarian aid in Germany, but also outside the national borders.
joining to climate alliance is another step to combine climate-friendly action with the tireless efforts to combine social justice. Together for a strong climate - that is the goal of the Johanniter, and you are ready to do everything to create a sustainable future!
