Property tax returns in Berlin and Brandenburg: deadline expired, but not all submitted
Although the deadline for submitting the property tax return at the end of January, not all real estate owners have submitted their explanations to the tax office in Berlin and Brandenburg. This can lead to delays and forced money.
According to the Ministry of Finance of Brandenburg, around 1.09 million property tax returns have been received by July 18. This corresponds to about 87 percent of the total of 1.25 million units. There are still other explanations every week. So far, around 90 percent of real estate owners (783,000) have submitted their explanations, while around 90,000 explanations are still missing.
For those who did not submit their explanations in time and have not received any extension of the deadline, an estimate of their tax is now threatened. In some cases, compulsory money can also be determined to achieve the declaration. No delaying surcharges have yet been determined in Brandenburg, but according to the level of knowledge of the Ministry of Finance, it has been due monthly delays of 25 euros since the end of January. The actual amount of a surcharge depends on the individual case.
The parliamentary group BVB/Freie Voter in the Brandenburg state parliament has asked the Ministry of Finance to withdraw the threat of delaying funding. By the end of June, a total of 1.18 million notices were granted in Brandenburg, but it does not contain any information about the future amount of property tax, but only the calculated property tax value. There is no statistical data on how many cases it has increased. The spokesman for the ministry said that the change in the rate of lifting by the municipalities was decisive.
From the previous modest, owners cannot see whether their property tax may decrease or increase. The municipalities determine this tax with a so -called lifting rate, for which they have to use the new property tax measurements that are calculated by the tax offices. This also applies to the 585,000 notices for the property tax value that have already been sent in Berlin.
The delivery period ended until the end of January. At the beginning of June, the Brandenburg tax offices sent reminder letters and asked to submit the declarations by the end of June at the latest. The obligation to submit remains even after the deadline, as Ministry spokesman Thomas Vieweg emphasized.
Due to a judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court, the land must be re -evaluated for calculating property tax. The property tax is an important source of income for cities and municipalities, for example to finance schools, daycare centers and citizens' offices.
