In the Berlin district of Neukölln, an assault on a gay couple occurred last night, which reflects the alarming increase in queer -hostile violence in Germany. The incident took place at 9:15 p.m. at an ATM in a bank branch in Hasenheide, where a 50-year-old man and his 35-year-old partner were waiting for her money withdrawal. After pointing out a stranger that he was in advanced, he reacted with homophobic insults.

The perpetrator obviously was not alone, but was accompanied by two other people. After the incident in question, those affected left the branch, but the attackers were already waiting outside and attacked the couple. A dark field study showed that 96 percent of the LSBTIQ*people have already learned HATE Speech, while 87 percent do not report physical or sexual assault. The reasons for this range from the assessment that the offenses are not serious enough, until fear of discriminatory reactions on the part of the police.

In response to the increase in queer anti -queer violence, the Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has asked to consistently pursue these offenses. In September 2022, a working group was founded to combat homophobers and hostile violence, the recommendations of which were submitted to the IMK Flyage Conference 2023. The BKA also took measures to act against this violence. It is active for diversity and against discrimination and has initiated a program for criminal police prevention. The police protection of the State Criminal Police Office has now taken over the investigation into the attack in Neukölln. Those affected were treated by the alarmed rescue workers and taken to the hospital, where they were cared for on an outpatient basis. The perpetrator fled to Sonnenallee by car.
